The original watercolor is one of my wife Judy's favorites. I announced one Sunday morning at 7am that I was off to Golden Gate Park to finish a painting of this bridge in 3 hours.
That early Sunday morning was foggy and overcast causing the colors to be soft and without shadows. There were many early risers exercising that morning. I spotted the jogger coming along the main roadway who still had time to ogle two young ladies traversing the pathway.
Even through the fog clouded 10 o'clock morning sun, the Viridian Green of the trees and shrubs were brightened by the colors of the joggers. The Cadmium Red and Orange striping of the 19th Avenue bus crossing the bridge punctuated the soft muted greys and earth tones of the structure, roadways, and paths.
Yes, other than about one hour's work on studio finishing touches, this painting was virtually complete in 3 hours on location.
The orginal is owned by Gary Kimball a long time friend and collector (who immediately noticed the furtive glance of the jogger on the roadway)
