Fisherman's Wharf Monterey

This is one of my favorites. It was nearly completed in on 3 hour sitting at sunset in unforgettable historic Monterey. I had been determined to get out of the hectic city business environment for a weekend painting excursion in Monterey-Carmel for quite sometime. Finally I just said I'm going. The game plan was to do at least two paintings that weekend and arrive in early afternoon. Business details delayed my arrival until sunset, too late to drive down the coast below Carmel.

Thus, I decided to scout nearby locations for painting the next day. Upon arrival at Fisherman's Wharf, the sunset was piercing the lavender clouds, the sailboats were anchored in repose, and the enitre ambiance gave call to immediate actioin to this unique moment. Crimson sky and clouds were floated into the paper. The earth colors, rocks and buildings followed quickly because of a layout and sketc which were brief but accurate.

The Experience was exhilirating requiring only a few detail touches in the studio later that week. I felt like a figure skater performing a double axel. I knew I had "nailed it".
